A Palestinian teenager was killed Wednesday (May 5th) in the northern occupied West Bank by Israeli army fire, the Palestinian health ministry reported.

Said Youssef Muhammad Oudeh, 16, "died of serious injuries caused by live ammunition" fired by the Israeli army in the town of Odla, near Nablus, the Palestinian health ministry said.

The Palestinian Red Crescent confirmed having recovered the young man's body and indicated that another young man, wounded by gunfire, had been hospitalized.

Asked by AFP, the Israeli army said that Molotov cocktails were thrown at soldiers "during a routine operation" south of Nablus.

"The soldiers acted to stop the suspects by opening fire in their direction," the army told AFP, adding that no soldier was injured and that the incident would be the subject of a investigation.

Assailant arrested

The IDF carried out a massive manhunt this week in the northern West Bank in search of the Palestinian who shot Israelis on Sunday, including a 19-year-old who died of his wounds on Wednesday, according to Israeli media. .

The Palestinian assailant fled after opening fire at a bus station at the Tapuah junction, south of Nablus.

Identified as Montasser Shalabi, 44, he was finally arrested Wednesday in the village of Silwad near Ramallah, Israeli security forces said, adding that he did not "belong to a terrorist organization".

According to local Palestinian sources, Montasser Shalabi also holds US citizenship.

The Israeli military has occupied the West Bank, a Palestinian territory, since 1967. About 2.8 million Palestinians live in this territory, as do some 475,000 Israelis living in settlements deemed illegal by international law.
