In the autumn of 2019, Ekot published several reviews of cases where Islamists were classified as a threat to national security by the Security Police.
The audits concerned the actions of the Security Police, the Swedish Migration Agency and the Government in the application of the Act on Special Aliens Control, which pointed to a lack of transparency.
Constitutes a threat to national security
One of the cases concerns Gävleimamen Riyad Abdulkarim Jassim, Abo Raad, who together with her son has been denied Swedish citizenship.
The reason is that Säpo has classified both Abo Raad and his son as key figures in the Islamist environment.
The Migration Court of Appeal and the government consider that they pose a threat to national security.
Had personal connection
Today, the newspaper Doku reveals that the reporter who was a driving force in Ekot's investigations has had personal connections to Gävleimamen's son.
Since February 2020, the son has been registered with the reporter's mother who has been committed to his cause.
Among other things, the mother has written a letter to the Minister of Justice Morgan Johansson and criticized how his case has been handled, Doku writes.
"Chose to quit at his own request"
In an email to Doku, the former Ekot reporter writes that she began a friendship with her son in the summer of 2020, after the reviews were made.
"During the time I was reporting on X's case, neither I nor anyone in my family had a private relationship with X."
The reporter says that she resigned from Ekot in October 2020.
"I then informed my then employer about my friendship with X. Some time later I chose to quit at my own request, the main reason for that decision I communicated to colleagues and friends."
The reporter has previously also worked at SVT, before she started at Ekot.
SR: Acted immediately
Swedish Radio writes that they acted immediately when the information about the situation became known in mid-September.
- As soon as I became aware that there was a situation where Ekot's integrity could be questioned, I acted and took action.
The reporter voluntarily chose to leave Swedish Radio and Ekot shortly afterwards.
How come you have not told me about this before?
- This is a personnel matter.
I was the manager of this employee and we must be able to handle personnel matters without making it public.
He says that Ekot has now reviewed the reporter's publications afterwards, but that they do not see any irregularities in the reporting.
- We have gone through the reporting that is relevant to go through in view of the situation that we became aware of.
I can state that it is still news-relevant and we are behind it, says Klas Wolf-Watz.
Kulturnyheterna has searched for the former Ekot reporter.
