The singer Nick Kamen ("I Promised Myself") is dead according to the British news agency PA. The artist, who became famous with a jeans advertisement, died at the age of 59 after a long illness, PA reported on Wednesday, citing a friend of Kamens' Family.

Accordingly, he died on Tuesday evening.

Celebrities expressed their condolences to the bereaved on social media.

"RIP the prettiest and cutest man Nick Kamen," wrote singer Boy George on Instagram to an old photo of Kamen and himself.

Nick Kamen, born on April 15, 1962 in Harlow, Essex, UK, was best known in 1985 when he appeared in a commercial for the US jeans manufacturer Levi's.
