Israeli President Reuven Rivlin on Wednesday (May 5) gave opposition leader Yair Lapid a mandate to try to form the next government, after the failure of outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

"I spoke with Yair Lapid and told him that I gave him the mandate to form the government," Reuven Rivlin said in an official address from the presidency in Jerusalem.
