The health authorities in Germany

reported

18,034 new

corona infections to

the

Robert Koch Institute

(RKI) within one day

.

For comparison: on Wednesday a week ago, the value was 22,231.

According to the RKI, the

number of

new infections

reported within seven days

per 100,000 inhabitants

was

132.8

nationwide on Wednesday morning

(previous day: 141.4; previous week: 160.6)

According to the RKI,

285

new deaths were recorded

across Germany within 24 hours

.

Exactly a week ago there were 312 dead.

The RKI has counted

3,451,550

detected infections with Sars-CoV-2 in Germany

since the beginning of the pandemic

.

The actual total number is likely to be significantly higher, as many infections are not detected.

The RKI

stated the

number of

those who had recovered

at

3,084,700

.

The total number of people who died with or with a proven infection with Sars-CoV-2 rose to

83,876

.

According to the RKI situation report from Tuesday evening, the

nationwide

seven-day R-value

was

0.82

(previous day: 0.88).

This means that 100 infected people theoretically infect 82 more people.

The R-value represents the occurrence of the infection 8 to 16 days ago.

If it is below 1 for a longer period of time, the infection process subsides;

if it is consistently higher, the number of cases increases.

In Germany, 28.7 percent of people have received at least one corona vaccination.

This emerges from the vaccination rate monitoring carried out by the RKI on Tuesday (as of May 4, 12 noon).

So far, a good eight percent of the population has received full vaccination protection.

On Monday, 424,777 vaccine syringes were used. The highest daily value since the start of the vaccination campaign was reached last Wednesday with more than a million vaccinations. All in all, all vaccination centers have so far administered a little more than 30.6 million doses, of which almost 23.9 million were first vaccinations and a further 6.8 million were second vaccinations.

Every fourth district in Germany now has a 7-day incidence of less than 100. According to figures from the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), 103 of 412 districts and urban districts recorded were below this politically set mark as of Tuesday morning. For comparison: a week ago only 57 circles were below the 100 threshold. If the incidence - i.e. the number of new infections per 100,000 inhabitants per week - is over 100 on three consecutive days, the so-called federal emergency brake applies. This means that stricter rules such as exit restrictions automatically apply.

The infection situation is quite different in the countries.

The RKI gave the incidence in Schleswig-Holstein on Tuesday as 57.

Hamburg and Lower Saxony, as federal states, were also below the 100 mark.Thuringia (217) and Saxony (204), on the other hand, were over 200. At the district level, Flensburg (32) looks particularly good, the Saale-Orla district (557) in Thuringia is at the bottom.

Coronavirus in Europe

display

With new coronavirus infections still low, the

UK

government is

sticking

to its easing schedule. This means that further restrictions will probably be lifted on May 17th as planned: Restaurants and pubs will then be allowed to open their interiors, and trips abroad will again be allowed. In the UK, the number of new infections remains at a low level. The

seven-day incidence

was last around

23

. The vaccination program is progressing rapidly, around

35 million people have been vaccinated

so far,

more than half of the population of around 66 million. Around 15.5 million people have received the second injection necessary for full protection.

In the

European Union

,

150 million vaccinations

against Covid-19

have now been

administered.

The number was named by EU Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Twitter on Tuesday.

The vaccination rate is picking up everywhere in the EU.

“A quarter of Europeans have already received the first dose,” wrote von der Leyen.

"In July there will be enough doses to vaccinate 70 percent of adults in the EU." Around 450 million people live in the 27 EU countries.

Coronavirus worldwide

India

has registered more than 20 million infections since the start of the corona pandemic.

The Ministry of Health reported more than 357,000 new cases in one day on Tuesday.

The number of deaths related to the virus rose 3,449 to more than 222,000.

The country is currently experiencing a violent second corona wave.

The health system is completely overloaded.

There are repeated reports of deaths due to lack of oxygen in clinics.

Germany and other countries have meanwhile sent emergency aid to the country.

On Saturday, 120 ventilators and medication arrived in New Delhi with a Bundeswehr machine, and an oxygen system will follow in the middle of the week.

In the

United States

, according to the CDC,

106.2

million people are

now

fully vaccinated, almost a third of the population.

A total of 247.8 million doses were inoculated, it said.

About 328 million people live in the United States.
