Emirati artist Ahmed Al Jasmi and Egyptian actress Shaima Saif emphasized that comedy must respect the mentality of the viewer in order to ensure its success and reach the audience, stressing the importance of spontaneous performance in this art, while not making it easy to present any new comedic experience that does not meet the required conditions.

The two artists reviewed their experience with this difficult art that seeks to draw a smile on the faces of viewers, and considered that "superficial comedy" is no longer appropriate for the interests of many of the new generation.

This came during the dialogue session organized by the "Ramadan Council" of the Sharjah Press Club, at the end of its activities, which were hosted this year by the Khorfakkan Theater Amphitheater.

The session, which was broadcast live on YouTube and titled “Comic Art between Laughter and Idea,” and moderated by Emirati journalist Khaled Al Hammadi, dealt with a number of topics related to art and comedy, the conditions for the success of real comedians on the screen, and the differences between high-end comedy and smile patterns and their arts, based on the experience of Al Jasmi and Shaima Saif in this artistic field.

Not superficial

At the beginning of the session, Al-Jasmi stopped at the importance of planting a smile in the audience, considering that the art of comedy should respect the mentality of the viewer first, denying at the same time that the term “superficial comedy” was appropriate to the interests of the younger generation today, who saw that it has become intelligent, alert and of a great degree. From the culture and awareness that qualifies him to follow the various experiences of presented comedy and choose its finest around the world, stopping at the experience of the late Abdul Hussein Abdel Reda, who described him as an exceptional artist skilled in devising various forms of comedy and drawing a smile on the faces of his followers, after he succeeded in presenting a simple and spontaneous comedy capable of reaching Heart without permission.

The Emirati artist rejected what he called “word comedy”, because the story remains the basis of the successful comedy “craftsmanship”, inferred to the silent comedy that Charlie Chaplin and “Mister Ben” each excelled in creating and presenting, each according to his different creative way and vocabulary.

Regarding the conditions for the artist’s success in comedy, Al Jasmi said: “I think that one of the conditions for comedy’s success is the need to respect the mentality of the viewer, in the absence of traditional censorship and commitment to ideas and values that take into account the nation, social norms and recognized traditions.”

He added, "This is why I am convinced that high-end comedy is the rest at the expense of a comedy (verbal abuse) that will end soon," as he put it, stressing the need not to be easy in presenting any new comedic experience that does not meet the required conditions.

Long experience

For her part, actress Shaima Saif said that one of the reasons for the public's acceptance of her comedic performance is due to her constant spontaneity and spontaneity and her constant eagerness to move away from artificiality and build barriers between her and her audience, referring to her example in the art and comedy experience aimed at the Egyptian star Samir Ghanem, who she considered and still is her art school. Take pride in belonging to it.

She emphasized the necessity of the comedian artist working on himself and his tools permanently and not being satisfied with one style in it, and constantly renewing by examining the corresponding experiences of those around him of actors and comedian artists in order to progress in this field.

I respect everyone's opinions

In response to the journalist Khaled Al Hammadi's question about her handling of criticism and how to manage it, artist Shaima Saif said: “I always remain silent and not respond to any criticism that I receive, because I respect everyone’s opinions, and I learn a lot from any remark directed to me to develop myself and provide the best.”

She added: “Loving people and continuing to present renewed work and roles will remain the most important thing for me, because it adds momentum and useful diversity to my career, which I hope to continue with steadfast steps and obtain the appreciation and encouragement I deserve.”

New stars

On the prospects for the development of the art of comedy in light of the spread of social media and its widespread circulation, the artist Ahmed Al Jasmi confirmed that the success achieved by a number of comedy stars on "Social Media", contributed greatly to the clear departure of the makers of this type of work from prolonging the Justified, as they began to rely on the phenomenon of "connected - discrete episodes" to attract the attention of the public, after social media had succeeded, well deservedly, in drawing many television stars to their digital spaces, in addition to their success in presenting new stars that went beyond the idea of prolonging the period. And the number of episodes provided and contented with intense and avoid procrastination.
