There is a new wolf, between the Hérault and the Tarn.

Urine samples, collected in Anglès, on the border between the two departments, enabled the French Office for Biodiversity (OFB) to identify the presence in the Somail sector of a male of the Italian-Alpine lineage, which had not been identified until now.

In addition, hair and urine samples, taken not far from there, in Murat-sur-Vèbre, confirm the presence of a male wolf, which had already been identified since 2016.

“These are therefore two different male wolves that are present in the north-west of the Hérault department and the south-east of the Tarn department, indicate the services of the prefecture and the OFB.

Other biological indices collected during the winter are still being analyzed.

"The classification in the zone of permanent presence (ZPP) of the Somail sector will be determined" according to the presence indices which will be collected ".

In addition, another sector has also been monitored in Hérault since the end of 2020: the south of the Larzac plateau, where "several signs of presence have been confirmed and several reports of predations" have been noted.
