The production company was able to follow in real time what happened during the party in the Mexican TV hotel last autumn.

But it was not until several months later, in connection with the broadcast of the episode, that the suspected abuses were discovered.

The male participant is now being investigated on suspicion of sexual assault against two female participants in the reality show - and the production company Mastiff has received harsh criticism for its actions.

But SVT's review of the press archives shows that testimonies of sexual harassment and abuse reported to the police have been a recurring element in the genre - ever since the first reality soaps appeared around the turn of the millennium.

We find 14 previous events that in different ways are reminiscent of what happened in this year's season of Paradise Hotel.

SVT has spoken to several previous participants who have witnessed some of the most notable events.

"Shocked and almost disgusted"

Emelie Rydberg, who starred in Paradise Hotel 2013 and Ex on the beach 2015, thinks it was distasteful of the production to broadcast the aforementioned episode in this year's season.

- I am shocked and almost disgusted that they did not react until the public reacted.

As early as 2014, Rydberg criticized the Paradise Hotel production for not taking violations seriously.

- The boys took liberties with us girls, especially at the parties.

The fact that from time to time it was not seen as disturbing was perhaps because no one in the control room reacted.

They told themselves that it was not an abuse, says Emelie Rydberg, who herself had to leave the program after a fight.

The production company Mastiff's CEO Matilda Snöwall does not recognize herself in that picture.

- Sexual harassment must not occur in Paradise Hotel.

Our opinion is that the staff always interrupts or tells if they see a situation where one participant does not look comfortable.

We have very clear routines for what we experience works, she says.

Required oral sex

Another described incident occurred in the Big Brother house in 2014. Caroline Urdalen was locked in a room with two men who demanded oral sex to let her out.

- I remember that I tried to negotiate with him and said that I could kiss him on the cheek instead.

Every now and then it did not feel like I had a choice, says Caroline Urdalen about the event today.

Eventually, she was released from the room by other participants, and the men were allowed to leave the competition immediately.

But according to Caroline Urdalen, the production wanted her to be low with what happened.

- It became a burden for me and it was actually me who had been exposed to something.

If I had been able to talk about it, I would have felt much better.

"I'm pretty hard-skinned"

The view of the events varies among the women SVT spoke to.

Some are still critical of the productions, while others do not perceive what happened as so serious.

One of them is Line Rødli Kristiansen, who participated in Big brother in 2005. An incident where a male participant wrestled her down, took out her sex and pressed it against her head was noticed by several media.

- For me, it was just a fun situation, but I'm pretty hard-skinned.

There is probably a difference in how you react.

Of course it was to take it a little far to slap a penis in my face, she says.

The production spoke to them the next day but chose not to give the man any formal warning.

Channel 5's press manager then said about the incident that the man crossed the border but that it was obvious play on both sides.

- I think it would have been handled differently if I had felt bad about what happened, says Line Rødli Kristiansen.

SVT has sought out the production companies Endemol and Meter, which have produced Big brother over the years.
