And what do you spend your time doing in the morning?

I know from my own experience that people with long, straight hair spend far too long washing and blow-drying them.

If you want to wear your hair down, the volume usually disappears after a few hours.

On the second day you look even more like a doused poodle.

Sadly, the strands hang down flat on the head, and they are often already greasy.

I can also say from my own experience: Spraying hairspray on the roots is a solution, but only a short-term one. Much better, and the tip comes from a hairdresser, is dry shampoo. At the sight of my very straight hair, she was at first perplexed. A cut would only be of limited benefit, she explained to me, straight hair will always stay straight. Then she finally had an idea and conjured up a spray can of dry shampoo. Since then I've always had a spray can in my pocket because the effect is impressive.

Older readers may be familiar with dry shampoo from the 1970s.

Or from hospital stays when there was no way to wash your hair.

For a long time there were only a few dry shampoos on the market, now almost every manufacturer has one on offer again.

Because dry shampoo has another function than absorbing the fat on the scalp.

It's also the perfect product for styling your hair.

"If you spray dry shampoo not on the roots, which corresponds to the original method of application, but on the lengths and into the tips, the hair becomes more grippy," explains hair and make-up artist Patrick Glatthaar.

Straight hair, which just happens to be called what it is called, regularly uses dry shampoo as a styling product for models.

Dry shampoo provides a grip

Long straight hair is very peculiar after washing. They may look nice and freshly washed, but they are difficult to style, and they literally "slip away". Waves or curls also collapse after a few hours. You can work better with them on the second day without shampooing, but then they are often straggly and the roots flattened. "Dry shampoo improves the hair structure", explains Glatthaar, "especially with fine hair". It loosens the mass again, provides significantly more volume and grip - and a fresh scent. Plus, it delays daily washing.

Women with long hair know this: during the day you constantly hold your hair to loosen it up.

As a result, they are so greasy on the second day that you actually have to wash them again.

You have the feeling that half of the head of hair has disappeared.

With dry shampoo, on the other hand, you have the feeling that you have twice as much hair mass.

How to use it

Dry shampoo in the true sense of the word would be sprayed selectively on the roots, rubbed off with a towel and then brushed out.

This will absorb and remove excess fat on the scalp.

For styling purposes you apply it to the lengths and tips instead, you can also spray a little into the roots.

“For a short-term effect, you only ruffles your fingers through your hair and refrains from brushing,” advises smooth hair, “for a long-term effect, you use it immediately after styling, for example when you have curled your hair with a curling iron.

Then you comb through again and then blow dry any residues away.

The hairstyle stays the same on the second and sometimes also on the third day.

In between you can always freshen it up with the dry shampoo. "

The problem with the residues

One disadvantage of dry shampoo is that it leaves unsightly white residue.

After all, it's a powder that loosens the hair and stays there.

In the worst case, for example with dark hair, you look like you have a lot of dandruff.

“Of course, the effect is to be avoided,” says straight hair and therefore recommends blow-drying the hair briefly after use.

Some products also contain special pigments for dark or light hair.

What can so-called hair dryer creams do?

In principle, dry shampoo is suitable for all hair types.

But those who have straight, fine hair will notice the effect most clearly.

"Women with thick hair should be a little careful with the dosage," advises Glatthaar.

"For voluminous hair, so-called hair dryer creams may be more suitable, which in principle have the same effect as dry shampoo, but work out a different structure, the result is shinier."
