The American telecom group Verizon has sold its media branch to the investment fund Apollo Global Management for $ 5 billion.

Among the entities ceded by Verizon, we find the two former giants of the web, which since the 2010s have struggled to go up the slope, Yahoo!

and AOL.

They were two of the most powerful digital brands of the late 1990s and early 2000s. Yahoo!

and AOL have just been sold.

And even sold off, according to some observers.

The American telecommunications group Verizon, owners of the two brands, sold them to the investment fund Apollo Global Management for five billion dollars, as part of the sale of part of its media branch.

45% reduction in value for Verizon

$ 5 billion may sound like a lot, but it's far less than the price at which the now ex-owner Verizon bought it.

He had spent $ 4.4 billion in 2015 to acquire AOL and $ 4.5 billion in 2017 for Yahoo!

That is a total of almost nine billion dollars disbursed in total, and a capital loss of 45% on resale.

Since the early 2010s, Yahoo!

and AOL are losing momentum, forcing the former web giants to divest several of their lines of business and cede some of their patents in an attempt to raise the bar.
