  The confirmed patient who arrived in Hong Kong from India was a 28-year-old pregnant woman with a variant virus strain N501Y.

She was quarantined at the Oriental Regal Hotel from April 4 to 25, and returned to the Meiyuan Building in Tsim Sha Tsui to live with her family after the quarantine period.

Zhang Zhujun, director of the Infectious Diseases Division of the Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Government, said that the pregnant woman tested negative during the quarantine period and when she went to Queen Elizabeth Hospital for treatment on April 26. The diagnosis was not confirmed until another test on April 30.

  Zhang Zhujun said that because the pregnant woman had a positive antibody test result after admission, and the antibody production is expected to take 10 days, the case was classified as an imported case.

The hotel where she lived during the quarantine period did not have a genetically similar case with her virus, and it is believed that the chance of infection in the hotel is low.

As for the Meiyuan Building where she lives, the Center for Health Protection has arranged for all residents to evacuate and undergo compulsory quarantine. At present, 77 people have been sent to the quarantine center.

  The local case may involve a 44-year-old Filipino domestic helper who arrived in Hong Kong from the Philippines on March 31. After completing the quarantine on April 21, she visited the Immigration Department and a clinic in Causeway Bay, and then lived in Block R of the employer’s Allway Gardens. Take care of the employer’s children in his home.

The Filipino domestic helper tested negative during the hotel quarantine period and on the 12th day of arrival in Hong Kong. It was not confirmed until May 2 that he was re-tested under the Hong Kong foreign domestic helper's mandatory testing order.

  Zhang Zhujun said that the Filipino domestic helper had a variant virus strain N501Y. After admission, the antibody test was positive and the CT value was very high (ie, the virus load was low). Because she had travel history, she did not rule out an imported case.

  Taking into account the above 2 cases with variant virus strains, a total of 257 cases with variant virus strains have been found in Hong Kong so far.

  In addition, the genetic analysis of the University of Hong Kong found that the three confirmed local cases involving variant virus strains found in Hong Kong earlier had a highly similar genetic sequence.

The latest investigation by the Centre for Health Protection found that the three cases have something in common, that is, they all visited Tung Chung Citygate on the afternoon of April 11, and two of them also visited the Tung Chung Seawall on the same day. The restaurant Curry Lounge.
