The white clothes are the armours and the needles and medicines are the knives. The medical team once fought a "beautiful battle" in helping Hubei to fight the epidemic.

Looking back on the anti-epidemic battlefield a year ago, there was no gunpowder, only the "tick" sound of various monitoring instruments in the ward, witnessing and telling the story of the medical team members of the Naval Military Medical University.

"Welcome the Navy Day and return the military and civilian sentiments." On April 22-23, Dong Yuchao, director of the Department of Respiratory Medicine, the First Affiliated Hospital of Naval Medical University, participated in a large-scale free clinic celebrating the 72nd anniversary of the founding of the People's Navy.

During the event, Dong Yuchao saw many familiar colleagues.

A year ago, they fought together in Wuhan until the epidemic came back.

Now it’s April day in the world, the red banner of "Celebrating the Centennial of the Founding of the Party, Exhibiting the Role of Military Doctors" is floating in the spring breeze, but his thoughts can't help returning to a year ago——

In the early morning of April 16, 2020, Wuhan, which had not been "unblocked", was still asleep, but the Huoshenshan Hospital by the Zhiyin Lake had "woke up."

In the bright sky, gathering, lining up, counting... More than 60 medical team members from the Naval Medical University raised their right hands and solemnly bid farewell to this "hero city" that had been fighting for 82 days.

In accordance with superior orders, the army supported the evacuation of Hubei medical team members one by one.

This day is the day when the last group of members of the Naval Medical University left Wuhan.

At the most difficult moment of the fight against the epidemic, they led their orders to help; in the spring season, they happily returned.

There were no people in the lane to send off, they walked quietly; they sent out batches of recovered patients, and they walked with great relief.

The earliest aid and the latest retracement

Looking back on the anti-epidemic battlefield a year ago, there was no gunpowder, but the ticking of various monitoring instruments in the ward, witnessing and telling the story of the medical team members of this military medical university.

"Leading the expedition on a rainy night on New Year's Eve, Wuhan is still holding on." The medical staff of the Naval Military Medical University was one of the earliest medical teams to arrive in Wuhan and the latest to evacuate.

Since January 24 last year, the school has sent two batches of more than 300 team members to continue to help, from Hankou Hospital to Huoshenshan Hospital, and then to the Guanggu District of Hubei Maternity and Child Health Hospital. , Never give up until the last moment.

On that New Year's Eve, the horn of war "epidemic" was sounded abruptly.

In the night rain, the Naval Military Medical University held an expedition ceremony for the first batch of 150 medical team members to support Hubei.

"No remuneration, regardless of life or death!" "The epidemic will not retreat, we will not retreat!" Zhengzheng vows resounded across the campus.

There are no clues, but a concerted effort to fight the epidemic.

At 11 o'clock that night, the medical team arrived in Wuhan by military plane, and immediately launched a battle against the epidemic in a race against time.

The task was docked at 3 a.m., stationed at the front line of epidemic prevention at 8 a.m., 4 wards were opened for rescue day and night, and 133 beds were fully loaded for treatment... After entering Hankou Hospital, they treated patients with the maximum and maximum ability.

Ten days later, according to the unified deployment of superiors, the medical team transferred to Huoshenshan Hospital.

When leaving, the team left more than 1,200 pieces of medical supplies in short supply at Hankou Hospital.

Le Wenqing, the head of the ICU of the hospital, said: "The naval medical doctors left us with experience, style, and affection."

At the initial stage of moving to Huoshenshan Hospital, the facilities were not yet complete and the first aid hardware was insufficient.

Chen Jing, known as the "hard-core" head nurse, led 50 nurses selected from all units of the army to familiarize themselves with the performance of the equipment while installing the equipment.

With years of first aid experience, they sorted out more than 1,000 kinds of medicine consumables in just two days, and then transferred these consumables from the warehouse to their place.

On February 17, 2020, the second batch of medical teams from the Naval Military Medical University stationed in the Optics Valley District of Wuhan Maternal and Child Health Hospital, and treated patients in batches in two days.

At the busiest time, one patient has to be triaged and transported every 10 minutes, and thousands of nucleic acid tests need to be performed within a week.

Xie Weifen, then director of the Third Department of Infection at Optics Valley Hospital, said that in order to light up the "light of life" in Optics Valley, they formed a 24-hour rescue team and set up a humanistic nursing team...Every day is like a battle.

At the end of March last year, the domestic medical teams had begun to leave Hubei, but this group of military doctors were still "riveting" on the line of fire.

"Since the dim light is brought to the darkest moment, we will let it burn longer." Sun Qing, a nurse born in the 90s, wrote in his diary.

Fight the "red zone" and stick to it to the end

As the "dark moment" of the epidemic gradually fades, on average, dozens of severe and critically ill patients with new coronary pneumonia in Vulcan Mountain Hospital and Optics Valley are turned into mild patients every day.

The number of hospitalized patients is decreasing, but the difficulty of treatment has not decreased; diagnosis and treatment have been normalized, but the need for care has not been reduced.

Critical treatment has become a fortress that must be conquered in Wuhan's defense war; careful guarding is still the constant theme of the front line of the fight against the epidemic.

In order to live up to their lives, the medical team members of the Naval Military Medical University worked hard to fight in the "red zone" (referring to the critically ill isolation ward in the anti-epidemic hospital) to rescue every critically ill patient at all costs.

On March 7, 2020, the centenarian Grandpa Wang was cured and discharged, becoming the oldest patient admitted to the Optics Valley campus.

Rescue of Grandpa Wang is a fierce battle with the illness.

When the old man was first admitted to the hospital, he suffered from eight diseases including new coronary pneumonia, Alzheimer's disease, abdominal aortic aneurysm, high blood pressure, and heart failure. At the age of a hundred, the medical staff feel "a lot of pressure."

Select backbone experts in severe respiratory diseases, geriatric diseases, etc., set up specialized medical and nursing teams, and arrange 24-hour special care... After 12 days of careful diagnosis and treatment with various treatment methods, Zeng Li watched the elderly recover day by day.

"Thank you for giving me a second life!" On April 5, 2020, a 74-year-old patient was discharged from the hospital in the Optics Valley campus and bid farewell to the medical team with tears.

After fighting with death for more than a month, the old man was critically ill many times, and after tracheal intubation and other treatments did not improve, two anesthesiologists Lu Zhijie and Wang Zhenmeng used ECMO (Extracorporeal Membrane Oxygenation) for him. At the same time, continuous renal replacement therapy was carried out, and the old man's life was finally taken back.

In the intensive care unit, the virus is spreading.

Fighting here is like pulling a tooth from the mouth of a tiger, and both ability and courage are indispensable.

An ordinary late night in the Huoshenshan Hospital, a patient's blood pressure suddenly dropped and his nose was bleeding heavily. Critical expert Li Wenfang risked being splashed with blood foam and nasal secretions, grabbing the protective face screen and starting emergency rescue.

The goggles were full of mist. He could only observe through the gaps, and successfully blocked the bleeding with his profound professional skills and stabilized the patient's condition.

At that moment, the clothes under his protective suit were already soaked.

"Auntie, some medical teams have returned. How long can you support us?" A 6-year-old patient in the Optics Valley Campus asked the head nurse Fu Li innocently.

"Don't worry! You won't be discharged from the hospital, we won't be evacuated." That day was a terrifying sting, and the earth rejuvenated. Fu Li's answer was warmer than the sun outside the window.

Scientific treatment lives up to its mission

What should I do if it is not convenient to auscultate the patient while wearing isolation gown?

What should I do if water mist appears after wearing goggles for a long time?

What should I do if I can't drink water while working under protective gear all day?

...Not long after coming to the "frontline", these seemingly trivial problems have become difficult problems that front-line anti-epidemic medical staff have to face.

In response to these front-line feedback issues, the Naval Military Medical University's Featured Medical Center immediately coordinated back and forth to launch special research.

With their efforts, medical equipment such as isolated wireless electronic stethoscope version 2.0 and medical anti-fog goggles have been popularized throughout the Huoshenshan Hospital.

After the trial, the medical staff gave it high praise.

"We have opened up a green channel for scientific research project declaration. As long as it can solve the real problems of the front line of anti-epidemic, we can declare and accept at any time, produce results as soon as possible and accept front-line inspections, and actively contribute to the prevention and control of the epidemic." The center leader said.

Scientific treatment, lives up to life.

With the cooperation of front experts and rear scientific researchers of the Naval Military Medical University, a series of "black technologies" that support the fight against the epidemic have helped the front to charge and fight the epidemic.

When each cured patient walks out of the Huoshenshan Hospital, he will receive a special gift "Huoshenshan Keguan Rehabilitation Prescription" Chinese medicine granules.

This discharge gift was developed by experts from the Naval Military Medical University, reflecting the effectiveness of their scientific and precise treatment——

Adhere to the principle of "requiring methods and answers from science", actively promote the clinical application of tocilizumab, convalescent plasma, stem cell therapy, hyperbaric oxygen therapy and other new technologies and therapies, and strengthen individualized TCM treatment based on syndrome differentiation.

Improve the nucleic acid sampling technology, combine throat swabs, nasal swabs, anal swabs and other methods to improve the accuracy of positive detection.

Insist on front-to-back linkage, and apply Poseidon's protective stickers, anti-fog goggles, and wireless stethoscopes to the clinical frontline.

Dong Yuchao still remembers how relieved he was when the seals were affixed to the various wards of the Vulcan Mountain Hospital.

In the Huoshenshan Hospital, he led the Second Infection Department to cure and discharge more than 350 people, achieving a record of zero deaths.

At the farewell ceremony with Huoshenshan Hospital, Dong Yuchao spoke as the representative of the ward director.

He has never forgotten those words a year ago: "Joining into this battle'epidemic' has tempered our skills and tempered our will, and it is more worthy of our lifetime to remember!"
