The discovery of four dead and one injured in a German hospital raises suspicion

German police said that an investigation has been opened into the murder of a suspect after four people were found dead in a hospital in the German city of Potsdam.

A 51-year-old woman working in the hospital was detained on suspicion of being the perpetrator.

The motive was not yet clear, and the identity of the woman was not revealed.

The police said in a statement, "A total of four people were found with fatal injuries and another person was seriously injured in different hospital rooms in one of the wards."

The statement added that a preliminary survey of the scene indicated that all the victims' injuries could be attributed to "the severe use of force."

The exact course of events and the circumstances are unclear.

Paramedics arrived at the compound shortly before nine o'clock local time.

The German newspaper "Tagesspiegel" in Berlin had previously reported that the dead were patients.

The Oberlinlink Hospital Complex consists of several specialist clinics.

The authorities said that no further information would be disclosed until the families of the victims were informed.
