Algerian striker from Montpellier Andy Delort, Zimbabwean striker from Olympique Lyonnais Tino Kadewere and RC Lens attacking midfielder Gaël Kakuta are the three finalists for the 2021 Marc-Vivien Foé Prize, awarded by RFI and France 24. The name for the best African player in the French Championship (Ligue 1) will be unveiled on May 17th.

Andy Delort, Tino Kadewere or Gaël Kakuta will mark the history of the Marc-Vivien Foé Prize, a distinction created by RFI in 2009 and awarded with France 24 since 2011. Never in 13 years, an Algerian, a Zimbabwean or a Congolese has was elected best African player in the French Championship (Ligue 1).
There had never been a representative of Zimbabwe or DRC Leopard on the podium.
Delort as Belhanda?
Kadewere would also be the first Lyonnais and Kakuta the first Lensois to be crowned, while half (6 out of 12) of the Prix Foé were won by former Lille residents.
Delort, African champion with Algeria, can succeed another Montpellier, the Moroccan Younès Belhanda, elected in 2012.
The winner known on May 17
The name of the winner will in any case be unveiled just after the penultimate day of Ligue 1, on May 17.
He will succeed Nigerian Victor Osimhen, who left for Naples last summer.
