The number of infected people in the past week has exceeded 4,000, which is 1.8 times that of the previous week.

Municipalities across the country are extracting samples from some of the new coronavirus infections to see if they are infected with the mutant virus found in the United Kingdom, Brazil, South Africa, and the Philippines.



According to the Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare, the local government reported that the mutant virus was detected in a total of 10,102 people nationwide from December last year to 27th this month.



The total number of infected people confirmed in the week up to the 27th was 4,186 in 43 prefectures, which is about 1.8 times that of the previous week.



By prefecture, Osaka had the highest number of 1066, followed by Tokyo with 916, Kanagawa with 297, Saitama with 221 and Aichi with 163.



In addition, as a result of analyzing the genes of more than 2,200 samples infected with the mutant virus so far, the first virus found in the United Kingdom was detected in 96% of people.



The Ministry of Health, Labor and Welfare has stated that "in Kansai, it is estimated that the conventional virus has been replaced by a mutant virus," and is strengthening surveillance with the expectation that it will be replaced nationwide in the future.
