China’s Ministry of Ecology and Environment spokesperson Liu Youbin told reporters on April 28 that China advocates that the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) establish a technical working group including Chinese and other stakeholders as soon as possible. The IAEA maintains close contact, communicates with the technical working group on related matters, and cooperates with the relevant work.

Liu Youbin emphasized that the disposal of wastewater from the nuclear accident in Japan not only involves the national environmental safety, but also the regional and global environmental safety, and we must be cautious.

Regardless of the opposition of its citizens and the doubts of the international community, the Japanese government has not exhausted safe disposal methods, and has not fully negotiated with neighboring countries and the international community, and unilaterally made a decision to discharge wastewater.

As a close neighbor and stakeholder of Japan, we express serious concerns about this.

Liu Youbin said that the Ministry of Ecology and Environment will maintain close contact with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and China's National Atomic Energy Agency to communicate with the technical working group on related matters and cooperate with relevant work.

Before launching nuclear waste water discharge, Japan should disclose relevant information in a timely and comprehensive manner to effectively meet the concerns of stakeholders and the international community.
