The Paris public prosecutor's office has opened preliminary investigations for "negligent homicide" in three cases after reports from bereaved relatives.

The investigators announced on Wednesday.

Among the dead are two women between the ages of 26 and 38 who suffered thrombosis shortly after the vaccination.

A 26-year-old medical student, whose body is now to be examined, died in Nantes in western France.

In Toulouse, in the south-west of the country, a 38-year-old social worker died of blood clots in her brain.

The public prosecutor's office is also investigating a third case in the Paris area.

The victim lawyer Etienne Boittin spoke of a total of around 15 unexplained deaths in France.

Most of these are people “under 60 years of age”.

In France, the Astrazeneca vaccine is only allowed to be given to people aged 55 and over following reports of rare but serious cases of blood clots.

In Germany, the age limit is 60 years.

In some federal states, however, people under the age of 60 can still be vaccinated with the vaccine on a voluntary basis.
