Kewpie Corp., a food maker, announced that it will raise the price of its main product, mayonnaise, by up to 10% from July, saying that the price of cooking oil, which is the main ingredient, is rising.

According to the announcement, Kewpie will raise the price of its main product, mayonnaise, etc. from the shipment on July 1st.

This is the first price increase in eight years since 2013.

The price increase is about 2% to 10% for mayonnaise and about 2% to 4% for products with half the calories.

The price increase varies depending on the size of the product and the amount of cooking oil used, but the typical product, 450 grams of mayonnaise, ranges from 378 yen to 402 yen including tax.

In addition, we will raise the price of commercial products for wholesale to food manufacturers by about 2% to 10% from the shipment on July 1.

Prices of soybeans, which are the raw material for cooking oil, are rising due to increasing demand in China and unseasonable weather in major production areas.

Major domestic food manufacturers are also planning to raise the price of cooking oil, which was raised in April, again in June, and the rise in international raw material prices is spreading to the prices of familiar products.
