4:44 a.m .: The worst acceptance speech formulas
There have been a few hopeful beginnings, but the acceptance speeches have not really improved.
Here is a selection of the customary formulations that kept coming up:
"Amazing", "brilliant", "overwhelmed", "totally overwhelmed", "humbling", "special", "incredibly special", "so so so grateful", "he's a genius", "he's a visionary".
And, as the highlight: "I love you, even if I don't know you"!
04:05: The most honest acceptance speech

The most honest sentence of all acceptance speeches came from 73-year-old Korean Yuh-Jung Youn, who was honored for her supporting role in the immigrant drama "Minari" and is a television star in her home country, but who had never been heard of in America before.
Their victory was announced by Brad Pitt, who then humbly stepped aside.
The winner began with the statement: "Ah, Mr. Brad Pitt finally!" - which says everything about size and power relations in the film world.
03:56 German hope is dashed
The greatest German hope has not been fulfilled: “Collective - Corruption Kills” about a scandal in the health care system missed the Oscar for the best documentary;
it was a Romanian-German co-production.
Instead, "My Teacher, the Octopus" won, in which the filmmaker enters into an unusual friendship with a female octopus who shows him the wonders of its unique underwater world.
The agenda is that of human humility towards the animal world: "If a human can form a friendship with an octopus, one wonders what else is possible," says director James Reed in his acceptance speech

When did that happen before?
Not even half of the show is over, and already we know the name of the director's winner: Chloé Zhao, the US Chinese whose “Nomadland” won its first important award and who will next win the Marvel film “The Eternals” “Is allowed to stage.
Show producer Steven Soderbergh's strategy seems to be to keep the audience engaged with important prizes at the beginning, then deal with the unpopular (sound, short films, make-up) and hope that the curiosity aroused at the beginning lasts into the last third.

One requirement that the Oscar Academy made of its nominees was: Make your acceptance speeches emotional!
You can hear that the winners make every effort.
Producer Steven Soderbergh gave them carte blanche to talk for as long as they wanted;
no more orchestra that quietly starts playing after half a minute.

Emerald Fennell, who was awarded for the best screenplay ("Promising Young Woman"), sounds rather trying and yet falls back into the list of everyone she would like to thank.
Thomas Vinterberg, whose “Der Rausch” is the best non-English language film, tells the dramatic story of his daughter, who was supposed to star in it, but who died in a car accident shortly after filming began;
it sounds very emotional, but he's told this story in dozens of interviews over the past few months.

03:01 am: Director award goes to "Nomadland"

02:03 am: The Oscar carpet has never been so empty
It's a strange feeling to see those 93rd Oscars.
A red carpet that is almost a parody of a red carpet because it's pink and because there's no crowd at all and the big stars don't seem to be there.
The awards have moved eight miles from the Dolby Theater to Union Station, the venerable and spacious inner city train station, where trains arrive and depart during the ceremony.
The unimportant people on the carpet - assistants, pilots - wear masks, the stars are allowed to show their faces.
Everything should be new, announced Steven Soderbergh, the "Ocean's 11" director who produces the show.
In the pandemic that is setting everything in motion, the innovations that have been required for years at the Oscars are finally to be introduced.
One change had already become clear before the ceremony: There has never been so much diversity in the nominations.

A rerun will be broadcast at 4.55 a.m. On the Monday after the award ceremony, the broadcaster will show a summary at 6 p.m.
