Even the carpet color is different this year.

Pink instead of red, a side step in the color spectrum that was not really noticeable at first.

But then Amanda Seyfried placed herself in front of the cameras in her bright red tulle dress by Armani Privé with a scissor-like opening cleavage.

Clearly, the Oscar stars strutted across a carpet in a juicy raspberry shade this year.

So much about the 93rd award ceremony of the famous film award is different this year.

New location, fewer guests, no live performances by the nominees for the “best film song”, no large audience that fills the Dolby Theater to the last ranks.

But wait: an important aspect of this Hollywood spectacle is just like it always is.

Keeping the "Old Hollywood" glamor alive

Because if you only concentrated on the clothes, you could get the feeling that the world was still stuck in February 2020.

The skirts were voluptuous, the shoulders bare, the colors popped, and the jewels sparkled.

Masks?

What kind of masks?

They may have been forgotten in the limousines, as these stars were allowed to show off their carefully applied lipstick and dainty chandelier earrings as they breathed the designer names into the microphones of the few red carpet journalists behind their robes.

We live in a new world, but the Oscars red carpet celebrated “Old Hollywood” glamor.

This is of course not a coincidence.

According to the media from “Vogue” to “Los Angeles Times”, all those invited were prepared in March with clear instructions for the evening's dress code.

“We strive for a fusion of inspiring and solemn.

In other words: formal is totally cool for everyone who chooses it, but it is definitely not 'casual', ”said a briefing from the Academy.

At the "Golden Globes" one or the other assumed they were sitting in front of the zoom camera in hoodies, but at the Oscars the Hollywood bubble should please stay intact.

The stars (unlike employees and helpers at the event) did not have to wear masks either.

They were all vaccinated and tested.

This award ceremony has been compared several times with a film production and whoever was able to fade out reality for a few hours has not missed the masks either.

Especially since the clothes attracted all the attention anyway.

The few stars who were allowed to walk this very empty red carpet did their best to spread a feeling of optimism - and accordingly relied on the usual formulas for success.

Red was perhaps seen as a carpet color on stars like Reese Witherspoon and Angela Bassett, as well as on Olivia Colman, who watched the ceremony from London.

In recent years, the question has repeatedly arisen whether the Oscars are still relevant for anyone beyond this privileged (and very white) Hollywood elite.

Well, the world's major luxury brands seem very certain of that.

Hardly any of the usual suspects missed out on dressing one of the idols: Chanel outfitted Margot Robbie, Gucci Emerald Fennel, Dolce & Gabbana Halle Berry.

The houses believe in the Oscars as one of the most important marketing platforms of the year, even if it hardly provides entertainment as a TV event.

But who is still watching TV, please?

The pictures on social media are much more important anyway - and the looks of the male stars are now also being discussed there.

They also impress with valuable accessories, such as the diamond necklace that Daniel Kaluuya wore for his Bottega Veneta look.

Or with flashy colors, like Colman Domingo in his pink suit.

With Leslie Odom Jr. and Carey Mulligan you almost got the impression that they had agreed with each other: Both wore completely gold outfits, she from Valentino, he from Brioni.

And looked not entirely dissimilar to the Oscar statuette itself.

Gold generally emerged as the trend color of the evening. The future, you just want it to be a little brighter, warmer and shinier than the past year. A beautiful Hollywood dream that the US musician Questlove knew how to comment on with a surprising and subversive accessory. He wore golden Crocs and bowed with it in front of a shoe that has become a constant companion in everyday home office life for many people. Real life is sometimes more interesting than any dress code.
