Kumamoto City has postponed the opening of the castle tower of Kumamoto Castle, which was scheduled from the 26th, due to the rapid spread of the new coronavirus infection.

Kumamoto City issued a city-specific "Medical Emergency Declaration" on the 25th, saying that the infection of the new coronavirus has spread rapidly and the bed usage rate has reached 50%.

Along with this, Kumamoto City has postponed the special opening of the castle tower of Kumamoto Castle, which was scheduled from the 26th.

Kumamoto Castle was damaged by the Kumamoto earthquake five years ago, and restoration work was completed last month.

On the 26th, a paper was posted in the park of Kumamoto Castle to inform the postponement, and the staff took measures such as explaining to the visitors.

A couple in their 60s who visited from Yamanashi Prefecture said, "I knew the postponement, but I wanted to see it from a distance. If it were to be released, I would like to come again slowly."

A man in his twenties who visited from Chiba Prefecture said, "I was shocked because I wanted to see Kumamoto Castle, which is a symbol of reconstruction, but I think it is unavoidable at this time."

Seiji Iwayama, Deputy Director of Kumamoto Castle General Office, said, "Wait for the day when Corona converges, and please come and see the renewed castle tower where the reconstruction and history of Kumamoto are exhibited."
