China News Service, Qiqihar, April 26 (Reporter Jiang Hui) In April, Longjiang, 10,000 trees spit out green, and a breeze swept past, alarming countless birds on the lake.

It is close to the urban area and less than 5 kilometers away from Qiqihar South Railway Station. There are many migratory birds here, and there are many rare and endangered species such as the oriental white stork and the blue-headed pochard.

However, 10 years ago, this place was a sewage pond where sewage flows and everyone hides their noses.

A few days ago, the reporter and his party got off the bus from Qiqihar South Station and drove to the southwest. In less than 10 minutes, a large pond came into view, and the grass on the shore occasionally caused patches of flying birds.

"According to the report issued by the Northeast Forestry University and the observation results of our scenic spot, there are now 204 species of birds here, and the number has exceeded 100,000, including the national first-class protected animal Eastern white stork and blue-headed pochard. It's a veritable'Hundred Bird Lake'."

According to Wang Zhentao, the person in charge of the scenic spot, there are now no more than 1,000 green-headed pochard ducks in the world. They used to stay here for short periods of time. Our scenic spot found that more than 20 pairs have settled and built nests this year.

There are many birds such as crested grebe, white spoonbill, grass heron, and heron.

It is not easy to see large clusters of birds in the north, but in the "Aviary Lake", there are particularly many clusters of birds.

In order to watch the birds, the reporter and his party took a boat to the lake.

"Look at the front, the trees are all artificial attracting nests we built for the birds, and some birds have already settled in them."

Wang Zhentao said that at present, 80% of the area of "Hundred Bird Lake" consists of various wetlands such as ponds, lakes and swamps, and birds can be seen everywhere.

The results of a monitoring report completed by the College of Wildlife and Natural Reserves of Northeast Forestry University from October 2019 to January 2020 show that through regular observations, the "Hundred Bird Lake" recorded 83,177 birds, 15 orders, 33 families, 104 species .

Among them, there are 1 species of the national first-class protected animal Eastern white stork, and 5 species of second-class protected animals: the white spoonbill, black-necked grebe, red-necked grebe, kestrel, and common buzzard; there are also blue-headed ducks Rare birds such as black-billed gulls, crested grebes, spot-billed ducks, pochard, great egrets, and herons are distributed.

The area is rich in food and less human interference, resulting in a large number of bird species.

This area contains all 5 species of storks distributed in the northeast, and at the same time has 344 oriental white storks, which has extremely high scientific research value and social value.

In an office in the "Hundred Bird Lake" scenic spot, a computer screen is showing the status of an Oriental white stork in the nest in real time.

"We have installed surveillance in 7 areas of the'Bainiao Lake', which can monitor the life habits of rare birds such as Oriental White stork 24 hours a day without dead ends. It not only protects the safety of the birds, but also has great scientific research significance."

Wang Zhentao told reporters that 10 years ago, "Bainiao Lake" was the largest sewage treatment oxidation pond in Asia at that time. It was artificially built by the Qiqihar Municipal Government in the 1970s. The sewage flowed and smelled, and pedestrians walked around.

"I am from Qiqihar, and I knew this oxidation pond since I was a kid. Later, I established an environmental protection technology company. From 2008, I started experimenting with bacterial agents in the oxidation pond. By 2011, the treatment effect was initially effective."

Speaking of the original intention of loving birds, Wang Zhentao told reporters that in June 2011, he and his lover came to the oxidation pond.

"At the time we saw a pair of birds with very red eyes and very beautiful. Later we knew they were called black-necked grebes. At that time, one bird had 4 small birds on its back, and the other was constantly foraging mouth-to-mouth feeding. I was then I think, this is also the life of nature. This family of 6 members is very harmonious and happy. I fell in love with birds at that time. Since then, I have organized company employees to patrol the lake and prohibit bird hunting and bird catching. The root cause of the investment in this oxidation pond".

"In the next step, we will increase efforts to improve the living environment of birds, mainly to maintain and improve water quality and achieve a virtuous cycle. In the area of birds, we will continue to build artificial nests for Eastern White Storks next year. Green-headed pochard set up specific activity areas to allow more endangered species of birds to settle down in our Bainiao Lake."

Wang Zhentao said that in the future, there will be more and more birds in the "Hundred Bird Lake". He may extend the management experience and bird protection experience of the "Hundred Bird Lake" he has explored over the past 10 years to the whole country, and even promote the protection of endangered species. The protection experience is extended to the world.
