Cartel Project

is 60 journalists from 25 countries assembled by Forbidden Stories to investigate the 2012 murder of Mexican journalist Regina Martinez Perez and resume her work.

Director Jules Giraudat recounts this international mobilization of investigative professionals.

Mexico is one of the most dangerous countries in the world for journalists.

Even in front of Syria and Afghanistan.

In less than ten years, 64 Mexican journalists have been killed.

On April 28, 2012, Mexican journalist Regina Martinez Perez was murdered in her home in the state of Veracruz.

She was investigating links between Mexican cartels and certain politicians. 

About sixty journalists from 25 media have decided to resume the investigation into the death of Regina Martinez but above all to continue its investigations. 

This collaboration is called

Project Cartel

.

It is coordinated by

Forbidden Stories

(Histoires interdites, in French).

It is a network of investigative journalists bringing together, for example, the Washington Post, El Pais, the South China Morning Post, Le Monde, Swiss Radio Television and Süddeutsche Zeitung. 

Ten months of an investigation which resulted in numerous publications and reports, some awarded, in December 2020.
