The Prime Minister wanted to be reassuring.

Jean Castex, said this Sunday that "the variants (South African and Brazilian) are very few and tend to regress", during a trip to Roissy airport, stressing that it was "imperative to hold that line ”.

The head of government visited early in the morning to see the implementation of the new protocol for travelers from five at-risk countries, Brazil, India, South Africa, Argentina and Chile.

"We have started the battle against these variants"

"All precautions have been taken", assured the Prime Minister to the press, warning that "we have started the battle against these variants, which are a threat against which we must protect ourselves".

“In parallel, with vaccination, this is where the path to the end of this health crisis lies,” he insisted.

Since Saturday, passengers from countries at risk have been required to undergo an antigen test when they arrive on French soil.

They have to go into solitary confinement for ten days.

“I went to ensure myself of the effectiveness of these measures,” explained Jean Castex, following the route reserved for these passengers.

Prefectural quarantine order

After an initial identity check and the PCR test carried out before the flight, travelers from risk areas are all subject to a prefectural quarantine order "then distributed to all the prefectures of France so that controls of its effectiveness are ensured ”, specified the Prime Minister.

The head of government also underlined that "the passengers are mainly French women, French people or residents of the European Union: we must also take care of our own fellow citizens in fully guaranteed security conditions".
