The laureates of the "Golden Raspberry" are selected by voting by members of the fund of the same name by e-mail.

This year, about 1,100 people took part in the process.

Most of them live in the United States, the rest represent more than 20 countries.

For the first time "Golden Raspberry" was "awarded" 40 years ago, in 1981.

The idea of the anti-award was put forward by John Wilson.

The first award ceremony took place in his own living room right on the night of the Oscar winners' celebration.

The award was then given to the painting "Music Cannot Be Stopped".

It was she who served as inspiration for Wilson: he was so unhappy that he demanded to return the money for the film show (but did not receive it), and at the same time began to remember what other films seemed to him the worst over the past year.

Laureates of the anti-award relatively rarely dare to pick up the Golden Raspberry.

However, Sandra Bullock, Jamie Dornan, Dwayne Johnson, Halle Berry, and several other winners were among those who did not hesitate to accept the alternative prize.

The first person to accept the award was Bill Cosby. The Golden Raspberry for Worst Film, Screenplay and Actor (Leonard the Sixth) was given to him on The Late Show in 1988. In 1996, director Paul Verhoeven dared to appear at the ceremony itself and took the award for the Showgirls, which received a total of six berries.

Over the years, separate awards were introduced: for disregard of human life and public property, for the worst use of 3D technology, the worst song, the worst rental (special Barry L. Bumstead Award), the worst contribution to cinema.

In some years, there were nominations for films of different genres - for example, horror or a picture for family viewing.

In 2000, prizes were also given out for the worst actors of the century (they were Sylvester Stallone and Madonna), and every ten years - for the worst film of the decade.

In addition, in some cases, the awarding of an honorary prize for the restoration of reputation is practiced.

It was planned that in 2020 the first television broadcast of the ceremony will take place, however, due to the coronavirus pandemic, these plans could not be implemented.
