"Down Mountain Tiger" has been sent to Siberian Tiger Forest Park

Will undergo a series of inspections for the injured villagers to have no bone wounds to undergo sutures

In recent years, people have spotted Siberian tigers in Jixi, Mishan, Wandashan, Baoqing, and Huanan in eastern Heilongjiang from time to time.

Because these individuals are basically males, coupled with the fragmentation of the eastern Heilongjiang habitat and the relatively high intensity of human activities, the individual Siberian tigers entering China are basically wandering in large areas and long distances, and they are easy to approach agricultural areas.

The vast majority of local residents have not heard of or come into contact with wild Siberian tigers for decades, which is easy to cause panic.

On the 23rd, a wild Siberian tiger broke into Linhu Village, Baiyuwan Town, Mishan City, Jixi, Heilongjiang Province. The round-up operation that lasted more than ten hours attracted the attention of the whole network.

Yesterday this newspaper reported on the incident under the title "A Village in Heilongjiang Breaks into an Adult Siberian Tiger."

At present, the Siberian tiger captured by anesthesia has been sent to the Siberian Tiger Forest Park, waiting for the next step to be properly handled.

Tiger fell down after four shots of anesthesia needle

According to CCTV News, the tiger weighed four to five hundred kilograms. Professionals from the forestry department arrived at the scene at about 6 pm on the 23rd and began to use anesthesia guns. At first, two shots of anesthesia were given. The tiger escaped from the grass after hiding for nearly six hours. Running out from under the pile, a tire burst.

The professional then took another shot of anesthesia, and the tiger ran and hid in the field, and was shot again when he reappeared on the side of the road.

After four shots of anesthesia needles, the tiger fell down at about 8:40 pm.

Cui Yan, director of the Xiaoxinganling Wildlife Rescue and Breeding Research Center in Heilongjiang Province, said in an interview with the media that he received information about the rescue of the Siberian tiger on the morning of April 23. He led the team to quickly prepare various professional equipment. At 30 o'clock, the assembly was completed and set off from Yichun to Mishan.

Tigers entered the village by mistake before they were arrested

At 7 o'clock that evening, Cui Yan's tiger rescue team arrived at the small village where the tigers were infested.

"If it is found in the wild, we will directly expel the tiger into the forest. But because this tiger strayed into the village and was in danger of injuring people, we had to temporarily anaesthetize the tiger. I would take this Siberian tiger. Three shots of anesthesia needles were used, and the staff of the Siberian Tiger Forest Park also supplemented the blowpipe anesthesia, so that the tiger was successfully anesthetized and placed in the cage." Cui Yan described more details of subduing the tiger.

The Siberian tiger has awakened, with stable vital signs

On April 24, this Siberian tiger was transported to the Siberian Tiger Forest Park in Hengdaohezi, Mudanjiang City.

The staff of the forest garden told the reporter of Beijing Youth Daily that the Siberian tiger has arrived and relevant personnel are making emergency plans and plans, such as confirming the tiger’s health first, and performing a series of inspections before proceeding with the next step. .

According to media reports, on the morning of April 24, the Siberian tiger had woken up, his vital signs were stable, and he roared.

The staff had taken blood samples overnight while the Siberian tiger was still in anesthesia and was planning to do DNA provenance identification.

A reporter from the Beiqing Daily learned from the staff of the Orthopedics Department of Mishan City People’s Hospital that the villagers who have been thrown down are not very serious, and no bones have been injured. Once the stitches are removed, you can be discharged from the hospital, and then start functional exercises for the next step of recovery." Wen / reporter Song Xia

Expert: Take a calm look at the "tiger infestation" incident

In recent years, with the effective implementation of my country's wild Siberian tiger protection measures, tiger populations are recovering. Siberian tigers are often found in the wild, and some forest residents sometimes have tigers "visiting" near their residences.

When the Siberian tiger population increases and the scope of activities continues to expand, the probability of the Siberian tiger coming into contact with people will increase.

What should people do when they encounter a wild Siberian tiger?

Feng Limin, deputy director of the Northeast Tiger and Leopard Monitoring and Research Center of the State Forestry and Grassland Administration, scientifically explained our doubts.

Reporter: Why did the Siberian tiger appear near densely populated agricultural areas this time?

Feng Limin: The location where the Siberian tiger was found is not only unexpected but also reasonable.

Judging from the current comprehensive information, this Siberian tiger is most likely a wild individual.

So where did it come from?

First of all, it is necessary to introduce the current situation of the distribution of the Siberian tiger wild population.

In the world, there are currently three relatively independent populations of Siberian tigers: The first large population is located in the Sikhote Alin area in Russia. The population accounts for more than 90% of the total number of wild Siberian tigers in the world. The latest estimate is 500 to 550. ; The second largest population is in the cross-border area of southeastern China and Russia, which is the entire continuous habitat formed by the current Northeast Tiger and Leopard National Park and the Russian Leopard Land National Park. The latest estimate is about 50. This population is also the current China The only provenance that can quickly restore wild Siberian tiger populations; the third population is located in the Jewish Autonomous Region and Amur Region in Russia to the north of Heilongjiang. It is a wild individual rescued by Russia and released here. It is not purely natural formation. At present, this small population It also continued to reproduce and expand, and the number increased to more than a dozen. Some individuals (mainly male tigers) occasionally crossed Heilongjiang to Xiaoxing'anling for short-term wandering.

If the Siberian tiger this time is a wild individual, it can only come from the above three populations.

Let’s take a look at the spot where the wild Siberian tiger was discovered this time. Linhu Village, Baiyuwan Town, Mishan City. The village is close to Xingkai Lake. The closest place is the large population habitat in the Xihotalin area in Russia. The distance is about 100 kilometers.

At the same time, the village is about 200 kilometers straight from the habitat of fertile populations in the direction of the Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park, and about 350 kilometers from the habitat of small populations in the Jewish Autonomous Region.

From the perspective of distance and the availability of spreading corridors, the current Siberian tiger is most likely to come from the nearest large population of the Sikhote Alin area in Russia.

If it comes from the Jewish Autonomous Region, where the diffusion path of hundreds of kilometers is either a large farmland or a densely woven road network, as well as a large number of fragmented habitats, it is almost impossible for a tiger to quietly come to Xingkai Lake without being spotted. thing.

The Sino-Russian cross-border population in the direction of the Siberian Tiger and Leopard National Park is continuously monitored by the scientific research team. Whether this tiger is from this population can be confirmed by the comparison of the tiger's body pattern.

Currently in the global wild tiger conservation process, the Siberian tiger has the best protection.

Long-term scientific research by Chinese and Russian scientists has shown that the wild population of the Siberian tiger continues to grow, mainly due to the high attention and strengthening of the protection of the wild Siberian tiger and its habitat by the Chinese and Russian governments.

Wild tiger populations continue to reproduce, with cubs growing up every year, and they need to leave their birthplace to establish their own territory and breed their own offspring.

As the large populations in the Sikhote Alin area in Russia tend to be saturated, the populations are bound to continue to spread to the neighboring eastern Heilongjiang region.

Reporter: Does the tiger hurt people?

Feng Limin: According to research, under normal circumstances, wild tigers will not actively attack humans.

First of all, most wild tigers have an innate fear of humans, and they usually stay away from areas where humans frequent and avoid direct contact with people.

Secondly, after some cubs grow up and leave their mothers, they will wander into areas where there are fewer adult tigers, so they may have a certain intersection with human life.

However, due to the obvious difference between human appearance and tiger's main food-four-legged ungulates, these tigers may attack domestic animals, but generally do not attack humans.

Reporter: Why does the tiger hurt people?

Feng Limin: Under certain circumstances, tigers may also take the initiative to attack humans.

For example, when the female tiger is feeding its cubs, if someone gets too close to the cub, it is very likely that the female tiger will attack.

This situation is extremely rare, because female tigers generally choose places with good habitats and very hidden places to breed and nurture.

Secondly, tigers that are provoked or forced to escape may also attack humans.

In addition, in rare cases, injured and aging tigers may prey on domestic animals and even attack humans because they cannot capture wild animals.

Finally, because captive-bred tigers are in contact with humans all year round, their behavior is very different from that of wild tigers, so they may actively attack humans.

With the continuous increase in ecological protection in my country, the wild Siberian tiger population has been effectively restored. While people's awareness of protecting wild Siberian tigers and leopards continues to increase, they should also master relevant knowledge scientifically and use scientific methods to reduce human-tiger conflicts.
