Xi’an Jiaotong University’s official Weibo issued an obituary on the evening of the 23rd: China’s control theory, system engineering expert, one of the founders of the system engineering discipline, the honorary director of the Institute of System Engineering of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and the No. Professor Hu Baosheng, the fourth and fifth executive directors, the sixth director, and the seventh honorary director, died of illness at 7:50 am on April 23, 2021 at the age of 91.

  Professor Hu Baosheng was born in September 1930, a native of Wuxi, Jiangsu, a Han nationality, a member of the Communist Party of China, an expert in control and systems, and one of the founders of the Chinese system engineering discipline.

Professor Hu Baosheng graduated from the Department of Electrical Engineering of Shanghai Datong University in 1951, and later taught at the Department of Electrical Engineering of Jiaotong University. He was awarded the title of Activist of Shanghai Construction of Socialism. In 1958, his family moved west with the school and served in the Department of Information and Control Engineering of Xi’an Jiaotong University. Director, director of the Institute of Systems Engineering, executive director of the Chinese Society of Automation, deputy leader of the automatic control subject group of the National Science and Technology Commission, and leader of the editing and reviewing team of the automatic control professional textbooks of national universities.

  Professor Hu Baosheng has long been committed to the scientific research and teaching of automatic control, system engineering and advanced manufacturing technology. He was the first to carry out theoretical basic research on population systems engineering, price system engineering, computer integrated manufacturing and discrete event dynamic systems in China, and cultivated a large number of outstanding talents. It has made important contributions to the development of China's automatic control and system engineering, and won the Fifty Years Outstanding Contribution Award of the Chinese Society of Automation.
