We must protect the police.

This is the slogan that Gérald Darmanin, the Minister of the Interior, sent to the prefects this Friday.

Via a telegram sent by the office of the Minister of the Interior and consulted by AFP, he urged them to "strengthen vigilance and security measures in and around police stations and gendarmerie brigades, in particular s 'acting receptions'.

This security reinforcement comes after the assassination of Stéphanie, a 49-year-old administrative agent from the Rambouillet police station (Yvelines), this Friday at the beginning of the afternoon.

The young woman was stabbed to death by an assailant, of Tunisian origin, who according to witnesses would have shouted "Allahou Akbar", reports a source close to the investigation.

The 36-year-old attacker was killed by retaliatory fire from a police officer.

The national anti-terrorism prosecutor's office took the investigation into its own hands.
