Song Xiuhong's mother is also a craftsman. Since the age of twelve or thirteen, she has followed her to learn flower spinning and paper-cutting.
"Since I was a child, I also liked listening to operas. My parents often ride a bicycle to take me to the opera." Song Xiuhong said that the typical stories and characters in traditional opera are the source of inspiration for her creation.

"I really like it very much. Sometimes I stay in the room all morning and do handicraft work." Song Xiuhong said that she would sew wallets, gourd pendants, etc. for the children every Chinese New Year. The wallets were embroidered with the children's names and titles on the gold list. And so on.
