"Hands off my town".

For Earth Day, Justin Timberlake pledged against a pipeline project, slated to be built in his hometown of Memphis, Tennessee.

On Instagram, the interpreter of

Cry Me A River

posted a video in which he expressed his opposition to the Byhalia oil pipeline.

“Memphis is my hometown and I have always been very proud of it.

What most people don't know about this city is that it sits above one of the cleanest drinking water sources in the world… But now that drinking water is in danger. because the oil companies plan to build the #ByhaliaPipeline.

This pipeline will cross predominantly black and low-income neighborhoods.

It cannot be done, ”he explained.

The pipeline would indeed pass through the heart of one of the most important sources in the region, which provides drinking water to nearly a million people.

No oil

As a story, Justin Timberlake added the definition of “environmental racism”, developed by civil rights activist Benjamin F. Chavis Jr.: “A form of systemic racism where black communities are disproportionately burdened by health risks in due to policies and practices that require them to live near toxic waste sources such as sewage treatment plants, mines, landfills, power plants, major roads and airborne particulate emitters ".

To oppose the construction of this pipeline, the star encourages to sign a petition, "No Oil In Our Soil".

To date, the petition has been signed by just under 31,000 people.
