The European Center for Prevention and Control of Diseases (ECDC in its acronym in English) has issued a new report in which it endorses the

relaxation of certain protection measures such

as the use of

masks or social distance

during interaction with people who are fully vaccinated.

In the document, the ECDC indicates that clinical trials carried out have shown that

vaccines

against Covid-19 authorized by the European Union are

highly effective

not only in fighting the disease but also in slowing down the transmission of the virus.

According to the data provided by the European center, the risk of developing a serious disease for a fully vaccinated person is very low in adults without risk factors and low in older people or with previous pathologies.

In the same way, the risk that an unvaccinated person who came into contact with a vaccinated person exposed to the virus would develop a serious illness is also very low to low in young and middle-aged adults without risk factors and moderate in elderly or people with pathologies.

Therefore, given the

efficacy of the vaccine

, the ECDC supports that some of the protection measures can be lifted in certain cases.

In the event that fully vaccinated people are found, the European center indicates that both the use of the

mask and the physical safety distancing

can be relaxed

.

In the same circumstance, the meetings of unvaccinated individuals (or belonging to the same bubble group) with vaccinated individuals would be found, as long as there were no risk factors in any of those present, since they could also dispense with prevention measures.

The document also maintains that screening tests and quarantines for fully vaccinated travelers could be avoided.

However, in light of the

epidemiological situation

in which the

European Union

finds itself

, the report recommends that protection measures be maintained in public spaces and in large gatherings, even during travel, regardless of the vaccination status.

The document refers to the situation of countries with a high rate of people vaccinated with the United Kingdom or Israel, where protection measures have begun to be relaxed due to the reduction in the transmission of the virus.
