• The virus is still circulating very actively in Occitania where the incidence rate is on average 250 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

  • If this incidence rate and the number of hospitalizations are down slightly, the positivity rate for Covid-19 tests is on the other hand up, and has reached 8%.

Should we see an improvement or just a plateau reached before a relapse?

The Covid-19 epidemic is still very active in Occitania even if the number of hospitalizations has recorded a drop in recent days according to a report drawn up on Wednesday by the Regional Health Agency.

“After a strong and rapid increase in early March, the incidence rate peaked at nearly 300 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants, to drop to just under 250 cases today.

Which remains five times higher than the alert threshold, ”explains the regional director of the ARS, Pierre Ricordeau, for whom the situation is still too fragile to speak of deconfinement.

8% test positivity rate

Especially since the positivity rate of the tests carried out by the inhabitants is at a very high level.

After reaching a rate of 5.9% in early April, when many people resorted to screening as a precaution before the Easter holidays, it is now 8%, a figure that had not been reached since the second wave.

[# Covid19] Our #healers are still strongly mobilized to take care of serious cases: another 1,868 people hospitalized in #Occitanie, including 403 in intensive care this evening.

Pursue our efforts together and limit contamination.

Will these poor results soon translate into a wave of new hospitalizations?

It remains difficult to predict.

But one thing is certain, the critical care services of hospitals in the region have never received so many patients affected by the coronavirus.

In addition to this, you will need to know more about it.

“There were two difficult weeks, with 850 new hospitalizations per week and 255 new intensive care admissions.

Last week these figures fell to 700 hospitalizations and 180 in intensive care.

Hospital pressure remains very high and this third wave lasts for healthcare teams, ”recalls Pierre Ricordeau, urging people to maintain barrier gestures.
