Public transport projects decided without consultation?

Twelve LREM parliamentarians from the Rhône seized the National Commission for Public Debate in order to put pressure on Sytral, led by the ecologist Bruno Bernard.

The objective: to initiate a global consultation of all the inhabitants of the Lyon metropolis on the subject of the mandate plan, voted in December, and the major projects it contains.

“Some are in total opposition to the urban travel plan (PDU) voted in 2017, indicates in the preamble the deputy Cyrille Isaac-Sibille at the origin of this approach.

In general, each term of office continues the work started during the previous term, otherwise there is a break ”.

The cable car, a "decision taken without consultation"

Disruption or desire to stand out?

Barely elected, the new ecological majority wasted no time in unraveling one of the flagship projects carried by Gérard Collomb: the construction of metro E (voted by the PDU) supposed to relieve congestion in western Lyon, which is relatively poorly served by public transport.

To register instead the construction of a cable car that would link Francheville to Lyon.

And that's the rub.

“This decision was taken without any consultation.

Sytral did everything backwards, says MP Bruno Bonnell.

Let's compare it with a family going on vacation.

We first choose the dates, places, budget and organize the trip.

There, in this case, we validated the project, then voted the funding before establishing the schedule and asking the opinion of elected officials and residents ”.

"That they want to change the PDU, I understand, but there are steps to follow", insists the deputy Thomas Rudigoz.

Public debate is one of them, he recalls.

Accusing the Sytral "of advancing in a hidden way", the parliamentarians did not take offense.

“We know that the cable car will not compensate for other abandoned or moratorium infrastructures”, continues Bruno Bonnell, insisting on the need to “give continuity to the actions already undertaken”.

"There is a green alert"

Recalling that the perimeter of Sytral will be extended to the whole of the Rhône department on January 1, 2022, the deputy Thomas Gassilloud pleads for the maintenance of the metro E project, which was the consensus under the previous term of office.

“It would facilitate the resettlement of rural populations to the center of Lyon.

Today, it takes two hours to connect Saint-Symphorien-sur-Croise to Part-Dieu station ”.

“The problem is that environmentalists want to pass their vision of the world willingly or by force… There is a green alert!

We have to sound the political alarm bell, ”concludes Bruno Bonnell.

In December, Sytral voted for an investment plan of 2.55 billion euros for the next five years, ie double the amount invested over the previous period.
