On the 20th, two men fishing on the rocky shore in Kushima City, Miyazaki Prefecture, suddenly suffered a water accident in which they were exposed to a big wave.

At that time, the sea at the site was calm, but why did the accident occur?

On the 20th, before 8 am, a man fishing on the rocky shore in Kushima City reported to the police that he had been kidnapped by the waves.

According to police, two men in their 40s were kidnapped by the waves, one went ashore on their own and the other was swept about 100 meters off the shore, but by boat to the rushed fire department. He was rescued and was not seriously injured.

It means that both of them wore life jackets.

On the 20th, Miyazaki prefecture was covered with high pressure and the wind was weak, the waves on the sea were relatively calm, and no wave warning was issued.

However, according to police, the man who was kidnapped by the waves said, "Suddenly, a big wave came."

According to the Meteorological Observatory, the big wave that hit the two people is thought to be due to the "swell" caused by Typhoon No. 2 far south of Japan.

These waves, also called "one-shot rogue waves" or "earth waves," are phenomena in which waves suddenly come in much larger than before, once every 100 to 1000 times.

Typhoon No. 2 is expected to move eastward in the south of Japan over the weekend, and the swell that brings about a "one-shot big wave" is expected to continue.

Over the weekend, even if the weather is nice and the sea is calm, sudden high waves can hit.

Please be careful when you go out to the sea.
