The Sultan Qaboos Mosque is the largest in Muscat, and the largest in size and luxury, with a mixture of pink, sand and marble stones, lobbies and infinite courtyards, and halls that will not be exempt from inscriptions and ornaments, as well as one of the largest carpets that were woven in the world, and one of the largest chandeliers that were designed in The world, what makes it one of the landmarks Omanis are proud of, and the most important landmark that must be discovered when visiting the Sultanate.

He ordered the construction of the mosque in 1992, after announcing a competition to choose the appropriate engineering design, and after the selection was made, construction began, which lasted more than six years, and it is located specifically in the Wilayat of Bawshar in Muscat, where the site was chosen close to the connecting road from Al-Seeb. And the heart of the capital, so that it is easily accessible from the outskirts of the city and its center.

The mosque was built on a wide ground 1.8 meters high from the surface of the site, and in this planning the prevailing Omani approach to raising the traditional mosque architecture existing in the neighborhoods and villages of the old cities above the level of residential or public architecture, and also from the level of the valleys land, in order to be apparent To be seen.

The mosque is distinguished by its design that combines Islamic, Middle Eastern and Omani architecture styles, which relied on hundreds of thousands of tons of pink sandstone, which was specially brought from India for this purpose, along with local granite stones and white marble.

The main Italian-made chandelier adorned the main prayer hall is considered one of the largest designed in the world, weighing 8.5 tons and a height of 14 meters. It is completely plated with 24 carat gold and is adorned with 600,000 pieces of the famous Swarovski crystal, while 34 similar chandeliers are distributed. There are three entrances to the mosque, each of which follows its own courtyard linked in turn by a series of arches, while the main entrance is located horizontally ending with the minaret whose height exceeds 90 meters, along with four smaller minarets around the mosque.
