My wife writes

by Jonathan Zaccai, published on February 10, 2021 by Éditions Grasset.

Her favorite quote:

Artists spend entire lives buying time when they will no longer be there, for likely posterity.

Because we are all already a bit absent.

Why this book?

  • Because this novel poses the question of sharing the memory

of a deceased: how far do our rights to memory go and are we prepared to share it?

  • Because this novel alternates between several narrative modes:

the explosion of a couple, mediumship and the life of the entertainment world.

However, we enter these worlds without ever really being there in depth, we only approach and then move from one to the other, which ultimately gives a rather messy story.

This book was read with

curiosity, then with lassitude: nothing really starts in this novel which touches the subjects, so that the reader remains on his hunger.

It's a shame because the ingredients are good but this book presented as "crazy" would have especially deserved to be "worked".
