The tobacco epidemic situation in western China is not optimistic.
According to the 2018 China Adult Tobacco Survey Report, the smoking rate in western China (including 12 provinces, municipalities and autonomous regions) is 29.0%, which is
higher than 27.4% in central China and 27.4% in eastern China. 24.3%, there are 100 million current smokers,
accounting for about 1/3 of the total number of
smokers in
the country.
Data show that the smoking cessation rate of smokers in the western region is 42.9%, and the rate of trying to quit is 22.5%, which is relatively higher than that of the eastern region (35.6%; 18.5%) and the central region (40.8%; 16.6%), but the 1-year quit rate (16.7%) is lower than the eastern (21.8%) and central regions (19.0%). This may be related to the relatively limited resources of smoking cessation services available in the local area and the lack of effective help for smoking cessation among smokers.
The Western Smoking Cessation Care Action Project was implemented
to provide about 10,000 smokers or their relatives and friends in 12 provinces and cities in western China with new comprehensive smoking cessation services based on Internet technology, including WeChat official accounts, smoking cessation consultation and follow-up management WeChat groups, Self-service smoking cessation WeChat applet and intelligent voice cessation hotline service

This low-cost, wide-coverage smoking cessation service model has important practical significance for improving the smoking cessation awareness of the population in western my country, improving the accessibility of smoking cessation services, and increasing the smoking cessation rate in western and even the whole country.
The project will also organize at least 200 doctors from medical institutions at all levels in western China to carry out brief smoking cessation training, and they will recruit smoking patients, and encourage more smoking patients to accept the various smoking cessation interventions and full follow-up management provided by the project in order to promote The establishment of a local smoking cessation service system can effectively help patients who are suffering from smoking-related diseases to quit smoking as soon as possible.
On May 31st "World No Tobacco Day", the project will also hold a large-scale online clinic for hundreds of smoking cessation experts to popularize the harms of tobacco, publicize smoking cessation knowledge, and help smokers quit smoking more.
