After the tracking initiated by the Public Prosecutor's Office a month ago, the Court of Accounts joins the investigation of the grants awarded on a recurring basis by the Barcelona City Council to friendly NGOs.

The aforementioned court, as we reported today, has admitted to processing a complaint filed by the General Society of Waters of Barcelona in which the mayor of the Catalan capital and one of her closest collaborators in the Consistory, Councilor Eloi, are accused. Badia, of ha

Occurred in accounting irregularities when promoting the municipalization of the city's water supply. Precisely, these irregularities include the "disproportionate subsidy" to associations closely linked to the Colau municipal government team, such as Engineers without Borders.

The creation of clientelistic networks is an indissoluble part of the political project of populisms. Political conglomerates such as the one headed by Colau in Barcelona take advantage of their passage through the institutions to, from a hollow rhetoric full of demagoguery, parasitize public resources for the sake of waste and arbitrary allocation and for partisan purposes of public resources. In the absence of a city project, Colau seems determined to consolidate its hegemony by spreading funding to the beach bars that pay for its cause. This is clear from the complaint filed by Constitutional Lawyers, which has motivated the investigation in which the Public Prosecutor's Office has focused on the aid received by organizations such as the Platform for People Affected by Mortgages (PAH),of which Colau was a prominent spokesperson until her leap into institutional politics. Among the entities under the magnifying glass of the Prosecutor's Office are also the Alliance against Energy Poverty and the DESC Observatory, in which the mayor of Barcelona was employed until she decided to stand in the municipal elections. The links between these associations and Colau are evident. In the case of Engineers without Borders, according to the complaint admitted for processing by the Court of Accounts, this entity received 852,000 euros of aid from the City Council of Barcelona between 2016 and 2018, in contrast to the 271,000 it received during the mandate of the convergent Trias.in which the mayor of Barcelona was employed until she decided to run for municipal elections. What lies behind this investigation is that Colau has relied on apparently independent organizations, but in the end maintained by the City Council for the municipal water service.

To myopia for denying the benefits of outsourcing certain services is added cronyism when making use of public funds.

To this must be added the erratic politics with rents, mistreatment of the tourism and hotel sector, complicity with the independence movement and irresponsible revenge.

The last proof of the latter came this weekend, with the removal of the shield of the King Emeritus from the obelisk in a central Barcelona square.

Colau's management, in the midst of the crisis due to the pandemic, is being dire, opaque and sectarian.
