Alemania homenajeará este domingo a las 80.000 personas fallecidas en este país por coronavirus, una ceremonia nacional que también pretende ser una muestra de solidaridad a los familiares que pasaron el duelo en soledad por la pandemia.
La canciller alemana, Angela Merkel, y el jefe de Estado teutón, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, asistirán a una misa por la mañana en la iglesia Memorial del Káiser Guillermo II, un edificio emblemático de Berlín símbolo de paz y reconciliación.
"Es muy importante hacer una pausa para despedirse con dignidad de todos aquellos que murieron durante la pandemia, incluso de aquellos que no perdieron la vida por el virus pero que murieron en soledad", declaró el presidente alemán cuando se anunció esta ceremonia nacional.

Existen pruebas sólidas y consistentes de que el virus del SARS-CoV-2, causante del Covid-19, se transmite predominantemente por el aire, según una nueva evaluación publicada en la revista médica The Lancet. El artículo está firmado por seis expertos de Reino Unido, EEUU y Canadá, entre ellos José-Luis Jiménez, químico de la Universidad de Colorado Boulder (Estados Unidos).
"Las pruebas que apoyan la transmisión por vía aérea son abrumadoras, y las que apoyan la transmisión por gotas grandes son casi inexistente. Es urgente que la Organización Mundial de la Salud (OMS) y otros organismos de salud pública adapten su descripción de la transmisión a las pruebas científicas para que la mitigación se centre en la reducción de la transmisión aérea", detalla Jiménez.
El equipo de expertos, dirigido por Trish Greenhalgh, de la Universidad de Oxford (Reino Unido), revisó las investigaciones publicadas e identificó 10 líneas de evidencia que apoyan el predominio de la vía aérea. En primer lugar, apuntan a los eventos de superdifusión, como el brote del Coro de Skagit, en el que 53 personas se infectaron a partir de un único caso infectado.
"Los estudios han confirmado que estos sucesos no pueden explicarse adecuadamente por el contacto cercano o por tocar superficies u objetos compartidos. Además, las tasas de transmisión del SARS-CoV-2 son mucho más altas en el interior que en el exterior, y la transmisión se reduce en gran medida con la ventilación interior", explican.
