In the days following the fire, President Emmanuel Macron promised that Notre Dame would be restored and reopened just in time for the 2024 Paris Olympics.
But the work has been delayed by the pandemic and findings of toxic chemicals in the area.
On the two-year anniversary of the fire, the news is that the cathedral will certainly be able to receive visitors in 2024 - but that it may take between 15 to 20 years before the building is completely restored.
