Another (very big) effort.

The regional health agency (ARS) of Pays-de-la-Loire announced on Thursday that the incidence rate continues to increase in the region.

While it was 306 cases per 100,000 population last week, it stands at 317 so far.

"The figures remain at an extremely high level in the region," indicates Jean-Jacques Coiplet, director general of ARS Pays-de-la-Loire.

It varies according to the departments.

"

There are thus 275 in Loire-Atlantique, 331 in Maine-et-Loire, 248 in Mayenne, 300 in Vendée and above all 461 in Sarthe.

"An extremely high rate", according to Jean-Jacques Coiplet.

The positivity rate - the number of positive cases compared to the number of tests - is also on the rise in the region (10.1 in Sarthe).

"The wave is in front, not behind us"

"This is a sign that the machine is racing when the two rates go faster than that of screening," observes the director of the ARS.

The days of April will be decisive.

From next week, Tuesday or Thursday, it will be seen whether the measures taken at national level produce their effect.

“The wave is not behind us, but in front of us, insists Dr. Pierre Blaise, director of the regional health project in Pays-de-la-Loire.

The challenge is to lower the transmission rate [R0 rate] of Covid-19 to regain control of this epidemic.

This rate, which is nevertheless "in decline", according to Jean-Jacques Coiplet, is currently 1.05, that is to say that ten people contaminate 10.5.

For comparison, the national average rate is 0.98.
