France is studying solutions for repatriation from Brazil for its nationals, via "particular or indirect flights", as well as the possibility of stricter checks of compliance with quarantines on arrival in France from certain countries, said Wednesday. Secretary of State for European Affairs.

"Our nationals have a constitutional right to return to our territory", despite the suspension of flights between Brazil and France due to the dangerousness of the Brazilian variant of Covid-19, said Clément Beaune on France 2.

“This is what we are trying to do with our embassy, our consulates to find an ad hoc solution.

There must be a good reason (…) but it can be done by specific flights or by indirect flights ”, he specified.

French Prime Minister Jean Castex announced Tuesday that Paris had decided to suspend "until further notice" all flights between Brazil and France.

Questions also arise about compliance with the quarantine, requested but not imposed in France, for passengers arriving from abroad, mainly French nationals.

Very strict conditions for an imposed quarantine

Clément Beaune recalled that a decision of the Constitutional Council imposed "extremely strict legal conditions, verified by the judge, to impose quarantines".

"Imposed quarantines are very supervised," he insisted.

On this basis, quarantine compliance checks are being considered for "small volumes of passengers," he said.

"We can do it for small volumes of passengers, in a verified manner, on prefectural orders and this is what we are looking at for Brazil and for certain countries," he explained.

“We cannot do it in a generalized way (..) There is not a police officer behind each passenger.

It must therefore be on small volumes of passengers, ”he insisted.
