Like Deezer and Spotify, Amazon Music will open up to podcasts in France.

Millions of audio content will be available, but no exclusives.

Amazon Music is making its debut in the world of podcasts as this service was launched only a year ago in the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Japan.

In early 2020, the music platform announced that it had exceeded 55 million users.

Like its rivals Deezer and Spotify, Amazon Music announced on Wednesday the arrival of podcasts on its service in France, thus focusing on these particularly promising content for streaming platforms.

"This is something that our customers have requested from us and it will allow us to extend the audio experience" of the platform, which until now only offered musical content, explained Craig Strachan, head of podcasts in Europe for the service.

Amazon Music is a newcomer to podcasts, having launched them last year only in certain countries (United States, United Kingdom, Germany and Japan).

Its parent company Amazon seems determined to weigh in this flourishing ecosystem, since it got its hands at the end of December on Wondery, one of the largest American podcast studios.

Wondery creations, such as the captivating documentary series "Dr Lamort (Dr Death)", can also be found in Amazon Music, alongside creations from radio stations or independent studios.

"We want to cover a very wide range of types of content and editorial approaches, ranging from music and culture to news, sport, news, and content on diversity and inclusion", underlines Thomas Duglet , at the head of Amazon Music France.

55 million users worldwide

The music platform announced in early 2020 that it had exceeded 55 million users worldwide, and reported a positive dynamic in France, a trend that has continued, according to the company.
