  • At the end of March, Emmanuel Macron announced that teachers would be part of targeted vaccination campaigns "from mid-end of April".

  • But since then, the statements of members of the government are more evasive.

This arouses the anger of the teachers' unions, who demand a precise timetable.

They want their doses!

Teachers are starting to get impatient as they are still in the dark about their vaccination.

However, during a visit to Valenciennes (North) at the end of March, Emmanuel Macron had declared that “targeted campaigns” would be deployed “from mid-end of April”, in particular for teachers, who are part of “the professions that are exhibited ”.

But over time, the government's discourse on the subject has become more blurred.

At the beginning of April, Jean-Michel Blanquer mentioned the start of the vaccination of teachers “probably around mid-April”, first with those who work with children “with disabilities”.

On Saturday, the Prime Minister, Jean Castex, confirmed that the vaccination campaign would start "probably as early as next week" for teachers, Atsem (Territorial agents specializing in nursery schools) and "other staff of the educational community over 50 years who are in contact with disabled children ”.

Those under 50 will have to wait until mid-June

Statements that do not satisfy the teachers' unions: “84% of disabled children are educated in ordinary schools.

Starting this week, we will therefore be vaccinating staff working in medical-educational institutes (IME), therapeutic educational and pedagogical institutes (ITEP) and day hospitals and Atsem over 50 years old, which will represent few people.

But what about the others?

», Asks Jean-Rémi Girard, president of Snalc.

In addition, Olivier Véran announced Sunday that vaccination would be open as of Monday to French people over 55 years old, without any particular pathology or comorbidity.

“This means that teachers over 55 will be able to access it, like other people their age.

But this also amounts to saying that not all education personnel are considered a priority, ”emphasizes Stéphane Crochet.

20 Minutes,

Olivier Véran's entourage explains in fact that "the priority criterion concerning vaccination is not the job, but the age", and that the rest of the teachers will be able to have an appointment for get inoculated when the vaccination campaign targets their age group.

"For people aged 50 to 55, vaccination will be open from May 15 or perhaps a little earlier if the previous campaign is carried out quickly," says the Ministry of Health.

People under 50 will have to wait until mid-June.

And it is only then that teachers will be among the priority audiences of this age group, as Emmanuel Macron said in a video conference with college students last week.

Concerns for the start of the school year

So many perspectives that arouse the ire of the teachers' unions: “We have been led by boat since January.

The government lied to us, undoubtedly because the stewardship does not follow the promises made to us for lack of sufficient doses, ”fulminates Jean-Rémi Girard.

A situation that could affect the return of students and teachers, scheduled for April 26 in kindergarten and primary, then May 3 in high school and college: “There will be concern in the departments where the virus circulates a lot.

Whereas if the teachers had received a first dose before the start of the school year, they would have had the feeling of being better protected to face a long period of more than ten weeks of class before the end of the school year ”, emphasizes Stéphane Hook.

An opinion that education unions are not the only ones to defend.

Because in recent days, political voices - Rachida Dati, Anne Hidalgo, Stéphane Troussel, Clémentine Autain - or union - Laurent Berger - have also pleaded for education personnel to be vaccinated as quickly as possible.
