The Tokyo Metropolitan Government is strengthening its medical care provision system in preparation for the rapid spread of coronavirus infection.

In the third wave, when the infection spread and the beds became tight, the usage rate of beds for critically ill patients increased to 64.0% at the highest rate in Tokyo, and increased to 88.3% for all beds including severely ill patients.

In preparation for the rapid spread of the infection, the city is aiming to secure another 1000 beds by the 19th of this month and increase it to 6044 beds, which is the largest number ever.

However, even after the symptoms have recovered, there are cases in which the patient has a chronic illness or needs rehabilitation, and the hospitalization is prolonged, and the bed reserved for the patient with the new coronavirus is not immediately available.

For this reason, the city has secured approximately 200 hospitals to accommodate recovered patients, for a total of 1000 beds.

The Tokyo Metropolitan Government provides hospitals that accept recovery patients with 180,000 yen per patient to support them, and also coordinates transfer of hospitals by utilizing a system that allows information on recovery patients to be shared between hospitals.
