"Safety first": With these words the worried CDU chairman Armin Laschet justifies his push to improve the planned new infection protection law.

In principle, he supports the changes to the law proposed by the Federal Cabinet, which are intended to ensure a nationwide uniform framework in the fight against the corona pandemic in the event that certain incidence values are exceeded for a longer period of time.

Nevertheless, a little readjustment has to be made, suggests the candidate for chancellor favored by part of the Union.

Laschet for rotation principle

So that the entire republic is not paralyzed in one fell swoop, Laschet advocates a targeted temporary shutdown of the individual federal states in a clockwise direction, starting in the south.

There should be strict curfews there for residents, including the ban on public appearances in front of more than two people, with the exception of children under 14, between midnight and midnight.

“This also includes appearing on TV programs and on posters,” says Laschet, who is struggling for the well-being of German citizens, in his proposals for a so-called wandering emergency brake, which were agreed with the CDU presidium.

Worrying incidence values

"It's about staying at certain alarming threshold values and not appearing for a while if possible," explains Laschet, looking at a map of Germany that he has brought up to demonstrate his plans.

"According to the latest surveys, 37 out of 100 Germans can imagine a Federal Chancellor from Franconia, which is of course an incidence value that makes the intensive care physicians in the Konrad-Adenauer-Haus in Berlin desperate," said Laschet.

As luck would have it, Bavaria is the first federal state that has to be shut down with a “short but tough bridge lockdown”, the Rhinelander reports with a surprised smile.

"The strict curfew should last until September 26," says Laschet with certainty, "then I could definitely sleep a little more peacefully again."
