After the violent death of a 13-year-old boy in Berlin-Mitte, the defendant rejected an intention to kill in the capital's district court.

The 41-year-old said at the start of the trial on Monday that he had pulled a knife because he feared an attack by several young people.

He must have met the boy “in a reflex movement”.

According to the defendant, he did not set a “conscious stab”.

He felt threatened.

He was very sorry for what had happened.

The accused had "at least accepted the death of the boy", said the representative of the public prosecutor at the reading of the indictment.

The 41-year-old with Turkish citizenship is said to have killed the boy with a knife in the chest in Monbijoupark at the end of October 2020.

The ten centimeter deep stab penetrated the heart, as the indictment says.

This was preceded by an almost jostling by the 13-year-old.

Because he checked his cell phone, the 41-year-old's companion had to avoid the boy.

According to the indictment, the man was upset about it.

After some of the 13-year-old's companions appeared, the defendant carried out the sting.

Witness badly injured

The man is also said to have seriously injured a then 22-year-old who wanted to arrest him for the crime and take him to account after the knife stab.

The charges are manslaughter and dangerous bodily harm.

The boy died in the park.

He and his family are said to have fled to Germany from a refugee camp in Syria a few years ago.

Several media reported that he was traumatized by the war and last lived in a home.

His parents are involved in the trial as joint plaintiffs.
