On Sunday, April 11, the second part of the British Academy of Film and Television Arts BAFTA ceremony took place.

Due to the coronavirus pandemic, the event was split over two evenings.

The grand opening took place on Saturday 10 April and eight awards were presented.

The winners in the remaining 17 nominations were announced a day later.

All nominees took part in the ceremony virtually.

The prize for the best film was awarded to the film "The Land of the Nomads" (previously the film was awarded the Golden Globe and Golden Lion awards at the Venice Film Festival).

Director Chloe Zhao thanked the nomad community for sharing their dreams and sorrows with the filmmakers and showing their deep sense of self-worth.

The films Trial of the Chicago Seven, The Promising Girl, The Mauritanian and The Father also claimed victory.

The experts considered the film "One More" (Denmark, Sweden, Netherlands) to be the most outstanding film in a foreign language.

Director Thomas Winterberg dedicated the victory to his daughter, who passed away.

Together with him in the category were presented the Russian film "Dear comrades!", As well as "Les Miserables" (France), "Minari" (USA), "Where are you going, Ayda?"

Philosophical film "Soul" from Disney and Pixar was chosen as the best animated picture.

The competition was "Forward", released by the same studios, and a picture of the co-production of Luxembourg, Ireland, France, Great Britain and the United States "The Legend of the Wolves", which came out under the auspices of Apple.

Separate awards went to composers Trent Reznor, John Baptiste and Atticus Ross, who wrote the score for the winning cartoon.

Chloe Zhao (again "The Land of the Nomads") was named the best director of the year.

Nominated for the award were Sarah Gavron ("The Rocks"), Lee Isaac Chun ("Minari"), Yasmila Zhbanich ("Where are you going, Aida?"), Shannon Murphy ("Milk Teeth") and Thomas Winterberg ("One More Each" ).

Oscar-winning director Ang Lee (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Sense and Sensibility, Brokeback Mountain) received an honorary BAFTA Fellowship.

The best performer of the leading role was Anthony Hopkins, who starred in the film "Father".

Chadwick Boseman (posthumously), Mads Mikkelsen, Tahar Rahim, Adarsh ​​Guraw and Riz Ahmed have all nominated for the award.

Director Florian Zeller noted that Hopkins bravely agreed to immerse himself in beautiful and painful emotions and put everything possible (and even more) into the film.

In a similar female category, the prize went to Frances McDormand - she played a widow left without real estate in the film "Land of the Nomads".

Rada Blank, Wunmi Mossaku, Vanessa Kirby, Elfrey Woodard and Bakki Bakrai competed with her.

The latter received a special award for rising film stars, the recipient of which was chosen by audience vote. 

The victory in the nomination "Best Supporting Actor" was awarded to Daniel Kaluuya, who played the role of Fred Hampton in the film "Judas and the Black Messiah".

In the supporting role, Yun Yeo-jung revealed her talent best of all.

The actress played the grandmother Sunju, who, following the young members of the family, moves to the United States.

She competed with Maria Bakalova, Kozar Ali, Ashley Madekwe, Niv Algar and Dominic Fishback.

Joshua James Richardson, who was in charge of filming The Land of the Nomads, was awarded for the camera work.

He stressed that he appreciates the work of competitors and is inspired by them.

Screenwriters received some awards.

Playwright Florian Zeller adapted his own play "Father" with Christopher Hampton for the film of the same name.

Emirald Fennell wrote the original script, which formed the basis for her own tape "The Promising Girl."

The director thanked the actors who, in her opinion, made the story even better.

The statuette was awarded to Mikkel I.G.

Nielsen, who worked on The Sound of Metal.

The prize for the documentary went to the team of the film "My Octopus Teacher".

The Comedy Thriller "The Promising Girl" was recognized as the Outstanding British Film of 2021.

The prize for the best debut (for a British producer, director or screenwriter) was taken by Remy Weeks, who authored and directed the film His Home.

The names of the winners in eight more categories were revealed on Saturday, April 10th.

Two of them were taken away by costume designers, as well as make-up and hairdressers who worked on the film "Ma Rainey: Mother of the Blues."

The award for the best special effects went to the team who worked on Christopher Nolan's tape "Argument".

Outstanding sound, according to academics, was created in the 2019 film Sound of Metal, starring Reese Ahmed.

"Munk" by David Fincher was recognized as a model of the work of a production designer.

Sarah Gavron's drama "The Rocks" won a casting prize.

Also on Saturday, British cinema was honored.

The short film prize went to the Palestinian director Farah Nabulsi's drama The Gift.

The award for Best British Animated Film went to the creators of the cartoon "Owl and Cat".

The awards ceremony was broadcast from two locations: London's Albert Hall and a studio in Los Angeles.
