With the arrival of the new tea season, picking of new tea has begun in the tea plantations in the mountains of Shizuoka City.

The Motoyama district of Aoi-ku, Shizuoka City has been cultivating tea by taking advantage of the slope of the mountain since the Edo period, and is known as the production center of "Motoyama tea", which is said to have been presented to Ieyasu Tokugawa.

Mr. Yoshio Moriuchi, a tea farmer, produces 2 tons of rough tea every year in a tea plantation of about 3 hectares, which is 5 days earlier than normal, and the harvest started on the 10th.

On the 11th, 15 pickers gathered from 7:00 am to manually pick the soft sprouts of tea that had grown to about 10 cm.

According to Mr. Moriuchi, the fact is that the green color of the tea leaves is bright and the tea has a refreshing scent because of the light rain and warm days that have continued since February.

On the 14th of this month, the first transaction will be held at the Shizuoka Tea Market in Aoi-ku, Shizuoka City, to announce the arrival of the new tea season.

Mr. Moriuchi said, "Last year was a tough year due to the corona storm, but the weather is good and the new tea is very good. I'd like to expect the first transaction."
