It will not be a bridge but a cable car that will allow users to cross the Var river from 2025. This link project, in continuity with line 2 of the tram, between Nice and Saint-Laurent-du-Var, has was voted in the metropolitan council on Friday afternoon.

The departure station will be near the Cadam stop and the arrival station will be near the car parks near the RD95, south of the town hall of the neighboring town.

The line will be 800 m, the trip will take three minutes for a cable car every four minutes.

The works also include a relay park in Saint-Laurent-du-Var.

An online public consultation is scheduled for September 2021 to determine the exact route of the junction.

Preliminary studies on this subject will begin in April.

Start of work at the end of 2023

According to the Nice metropolis, work should begin at the end of 2023 for a little less than two years.

The entry into service of the cable car is therefore scheduled for the second quarter of 2025.

Philippe Pradal, the rapporteur for this deliberation, underlined the ecological aspect to justify the choice of a cable car: “This mode of transport is the one that best respects the environment.

The Var river is classified as Natura 2000, a network which brings together natural sites of the European Union with great heritage value, due to the exceptional flora and fauna they contain.

The hypothesis of the project first issued in July 2020 was presented by the metropolis as a way of "continuing to facilitate the movement of residents, to offer ecological alternatives to the private thermal car and to accelerate the fight against pollution. and carbon production ”.

For the elected EELV Fabrice Decoupigny, other projects of this type should be carried out in the Nice Côte d'Azur metropolis, in particular “between Eze village and Eze plage”.
